Mark Anthony Thornton (Thor) was born in Oakland California on June 24, 1962 to his parents Clayton and Ima Jean Thornton. He grew up in Pinole, CA with his half sister Brenda. As a kid he enjoyed camping and fishing. Every summer they would visit his favorite spot Whiskey Town lake. He attended elementary, middle and high school in Pinole. Mark was a great scholar and a member of the Pinole valley Spartans football team before graduating in 1980.
Thor spent most of his adult life working in the towing field, for about 30 years. He worked in the cities of San Pablo and Richmond, CA. Closely working with the police departments running traffic sweeps and much more. From tow truck driver, to owner of his own company. Ending as a tow yard attendant in Rancho Cordova, CA. He was very knowledgeable and really loved it! Mark retired in July of 2023.
Thor enjoyed sports, old school cars, a good old western movie and history documentaries. His favorite football team was the San Francisco 49ers and would root for the Golden state Warriors. Mark was a spirited gambler with a big love and passion for the game Black Jack 21! He also loved playing dice games at family gatherings.
Mark met his wife Jessica in the year 2000. They dated for 2 years and married on August 28th, 2002. Jessica had one daughter Amanda who he took on as his own. Amanda blessed him with his first grandchild Amaiya in 2009. Mark adored Amaiya and they had an instant long lasting connection. In other words she had him wrapped around her pinky. Mark was a tremendous help raising Amaiya. From breakfast dates to doctor appointments, school field trips and so much more. Mark welcomed his first and only grandson Carmello in 2013. Although not biologically related, Carmello took on Marks height! As well as the love for cars like his grandpa. Amanda took in and adopted Amaiya’s half sister Ashli in 2017. Making this his 3rd grandchild who he equally loved and cared for. Mark was brave enough to teach Ashli how to drive and he bought her first car. Mark was affectionately known to them as Boppa.
Mark passed on August 11th, 2023. Proceeding Mark in death are his parents Clayton and Ima Jean Thornton and his sister Brenda. He is survived by his wife Jessica Thornton.
