Rachel Lydia Castro, age 75, passed away peacefully in her home in El Dorado Hills, Monday evening, 8/20. She was in the presence of Addie, her sister, Antonio, brother (in-law) and Alexandria, niece and Godchild. Metastized Leiomyosarcoma cancer took her life prematurely. In 1962 and after a short courtship, she remained married to her lifetime love, Luis Castro. She retired in 2002 from the County to care for Luis, who needed her extra loving care. Since 2009 and despite her 2015 affliction with cancer, she also continued to lovingly care for her now 98-year old Mother, Jessie Perez until she could no longer. Rachel loved felines and dogs. Over the years, she had her fair share of these furry little animals. And the neighborhood felines could always count on getting a healthy meal at her home. Rachel loved to love on people, too. Her favorite pass time was creating beautiful cards. You were certainly blessed if you received one of these treasures. She would spend hours designing a one-of-a-kind card to commemorate a special occasion. And then hours perfecting its content, so it was perfect. Her letter writing was exceptional and deeply touched one's heart. Rachel loved God with all her heart, soul, and might. So many of her favorite Bible versus revealed her faith and trust in Jesus Christ. She loved personalizing them by putting her name first. One example comes to mind, “Rachel, Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Another favorite morning read was “Rachel. Good morning. This is God. I will be handling all of your problems today. I will not need your help. So, have a nice day!” She is also survived by her step-daughter and husband, Jenny and Alo Garcia, brother and wife, Tony and Sherrie Macias, sister and husband, Yolanda and John Luna, Aunts Josie, Teresa, Pauline and her many other dear aunts and uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed by all those she touched so deeply. Beloved Sis….for the happy times shared through the years. For the loyalty, love, the laughter and tears. For the special things only you could do. For all of these I thank you. You will always be my 24 karat Sis. Missing you deeply, Addie, Anthony, and Alexandria. Please join us celebrating her life on 8/24 and 8/25. Friday visitation is from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. immediately followed by a celebration of her life at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento. The internment will continue Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Ln, Fair Oaks.
