Died June 2, 2014 at his home in Sacramento, CA. 89 years old. He was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin on August 26, 1924, the son of Richard Allen McGee, Sr., and Myrtle Leola (Ellis) McGee. He grew up in Forest Lake & Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota for 2 years aspiring to be a Civil Engineer but interrupted his college education to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific. After the war he met and then married Velma Louise Nelson in September 1947. Soon after they moved from Minneapolis to Sacramento where Richard pursued a career in construction as a carpenter and with hard work and dedication obtained his general contractors license; owning a construction business for 40 years. Before retiring in 1995 he was a building inspector for the Elk Grove Unified School District for 11 years. He fulfilled a boyhood dream by obtaining his private pilot license and was instrument rated. Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Velma, of nearly 65 years, his sisters, Elizabeth Joy Swisher and Alice Jeanne Jordan. He is survived by his children, Gary McGee (Linda), Jane Mason, Richard N. McGee, Aileen Lokka (Wade), 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren (2 expected), numerous nieces & nephews. He leaves a legacy of love & faith. Friends & family are welcome to attend the viewing Friday, June 13, 4-7 p.m., funeral services Saturday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception immediately following the committal service at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA 95628, (916) 969-1251.
