Valerie Elaine Lewis Rogers, 93, daughter of James David Lewis and Carolyn Roselle Durant Lewis, was born on Valentine's Day 1924 in Georgetown, South Carolina. She married Henry Gordon "Rog" Rogers in Charleston in 1941. Rog was a Sailor in the United States Navy whose career never kept their family in one location. With Rog, Valerie saw the world, residing in Guam, the Philippines, and Hawai'i. With him she also gained a deep appreciation for the military and a love for the military life. They ultimately retired in California where Valerie remained after Rog's passing in 1970. In life Valerie was fiercely Christian, finding joy in the promise of salvation found in John 3:16. She was passionately American, proud of her country and her family's pre-Revolution lineage. She was enthusiastically patriotic, ever supportive of the military and its service-members. Surviving is her brother, David Ulmer Lewis and his wife, Neomi, of St. David, Arizona; her son, Michael Rogers, and his wife, Janet, of Merritt Island, Florida; her son, Gordon Rogers, and his wife, Penny, of El Dorado Hills, California; her daughter, Joyce Brand, and her husband, Steve, of Sacramento, California; her son, George Rogers, and his wife, Virginia, of Bristol, Tennessee; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 30 years, Henry Gordon Rogers; her brothers, Joseph Durant Lewis and William Bell Lewis; her sisters, Annie Louella Lewis, Francis Carolyn Lewis, Virginia Margaret Lewis, and Grace McClellan Lewis; and her grandson, Brian Cassani.
