Walter Elmer Blau passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. He was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1938 in San Francisco to the late Col. Elmer and Lucille Blau, a third-generation San Franciscan. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Anita Blau O’Connor and his stepfather, George Paul Cervieres. Although, Walter grew up in the City and spent his formative, high school and college years there making many friends and lasting memories, he grew to love being in the country or traveling the country in his RV, seeing new and familiar places. He also liked building and fixing things, at home, at his family cabin or anything to do with his boat or RV. His career of 41 years began in San Francisco at Homelite, where he was a small engine technician, growing his career there to ultimately become the Western Region Service Manager for John Deere, who acquired Homelite. He had many inspiring stories to share about supplying and delivering much needed equipment as roads were being built and iconic buildings were maintained. He established a reputation for his knowledge of equipment and technology and good sense of direction which factored into his dependability, talent and success.
Walt met the love of his life, Judy, online on the dating app, OurTime, where they talked for months before meeting in person on September 8, 2016. After they fell in love, they made many trips in his RV to Oregon, Utah, North Dakota, Montana, and never missed a winter in Yuma, AZ. They also made very special friends on their outings with the Port City RVers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Blau, his children Douglas (Patti) and David Blau and Pamela (Geoff) Moon as well as his grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica and Devon Blau and Rachel (Marc) Selwan, great-grandchildren, Kayden Selwan and Blake Farsai, nephews Kenneth, Steven, James and Daniel Peterson, Judy’s children, Rosann (Steve) Thienes, Connie Simpfenderfer, Tony (Janet) Harris and Melissa LePage, along with 13 step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren who were also blessed to have Walt in their lives.
A celebration of Walter’s life will take place with family and friends at their newly purchased home in Woodbridge, California on July 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to a cancer charity or hospice.
