Ana Maria Cantu entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at a nursing home in Falfurrias, Texas at the age of 75. She was born on August 5, 1945 to Jose Angel Cantu and Anita Soliz Cantu in Falfurrias. Ana Maria earned her Associate’s Degree from Del Mar College and worked as the Office Manager and Sales Clerk for J.R. Murphy Company for over 29 years. Previously, she worked as the Secretary for Mr. Garland Lasater at the Falfurrias Creamery, with Fred’s Pharmacy part-time and as the Administrative Assistant at the Greater South Texas Savings and Loans of Falfurrias.
She was a devout Catholic who dedicated a lot of her time to the Sacred Heart Church in Falfurrias. Ana Maria joined the Catholic Daughters of the Americas on February 17, 2001 and was an actively devoted member, who selflessly contributed many hours of her time on a regular basis. At the Regent level of Catholic Daughters, she served as Regent 2004 - 2006 and again from 2011-2013. She also held the Offices of Financial Secretary and Treasurer from 2014 to 2020 locally. She was a prime example of what God expects of us. Not only did Ana Maria have two blood sisters, she had hundreds of CDA sisters as well. She was also known to have one of the top selling desserts at all their bake sales, her famous fruit salad!
Ana Maria was also a Board Member for the Falfurrias Burial Park Association and the Heritage Museum of Falfurrias. She was someone who enjoyed cruises and traveling. She visited many places including, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Europe.
Ana Maria was reunited in Heaven with her parents; her paternal grandparents, Pedro and Guadalupe Cantu and her maternal parents, Gumercindo and Jovina Soliz.
She leaves behind to reminisce on her memories her sisters, Alda E. Lopez of Falfurrias and Alma Linda (Fermin) Munoz of Portland, Texas; nieces and nephews, Roxanna (Joe) L. Garza, Cristina Lopez, Carlos Rene Munoz, and Marco F. Munoz; great nieces and nephews, Joaquin Nicolas Garza, Santiago Rene DeLeon, Saida Cristina DeLeon, Jayce Ryan Rivera, Cristiano Joseph Munoz and Serenity Luna Munoz and many extended family members, work family and special friends.
The family expresses gratitude to Mr. Jack C. Murphy for his on going generosity and friendship throughout the years and now. Also to her work family, who spent many hours a day together working and building friendships.
Pallbearers will be Carlos Munoz, Marco Munoz, Joaquin N. Garza, Santiago R. De Leon , Cesar Cantu and Salome Diaz.
A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. by the Catholic Daughters and Deacon Richard Costley on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams with Visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass by Father Zerr will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias and services will conclude with Burial at the Falfurrias Burial Park.
