Hilda C. Villarreal, a caring wife, mother and grandmother, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at her residence in Falfurrias, Texas. She was born on December 22, 1944 to Santos Chapa, Sr. and Juanita Garza Chapa in Falcon, Texas and was blessed with 77 years of life. Hilda was a well-loved member of the community and dedicated over 30 years to educating the youth of Falfurrias at Brooks County ISD. With her Master’s Degree in Bilingual Studies, she taught at every campus in Falfurrias and was the Head of the Department for the Special Education Program as well as the Teen Leadership teacher for all grade levels. Many of her students considered her a mother figure as she cared deeply for them, especially the FHS Class of 2003, for whom she was the Class Head Sponsor for their four years of high school. Hilda and Sonny had a love story like no other. They lived for each other and were the best of friends. Although their family was small in size, their love and commitment to each other was substantial.
Always wanting to support and contribute to the community and her faith, Hilda was a Eucharistic Minister and Bible Class teacher at the Sacred Heart Church. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters, Spanish Choir, ACTS Retreat, and Retired Teachers Association. She was never caught without her stilettos heels or fashionable shoes. She loved fashion and keeping up to date with the trends, traveling with her family and reading. Hilda was also the cofounder, alongside her husband Sonny, of the Noah’s Ark Club, which helped children in need as well as funerals for children of the community.
Hilda was reunited in Heaven with her parents and two brothers, Santos Chapa, Jr. and Felipe Chapa.
Surviving Hilda are her husband, Israel “Sonny” Villarreal, Jr. of Falfurrias; daughter, Lou Yveth (Roberto Ramos) Caro of San Antonio, Texas; son, Gabriel Xavier Villarreal of Falfurrias; granddaughter, Xinia Eliza Caro of Falfurrias; brother, Juan (Joyce) Chapa; sisters, Imelda (Romeo, Sr.) Salinas and Maria De Refugio Chapa both of Falfurrias; her teacup Yorkie, Coco and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family members.
