

Lowell Edgar Wilder, M.D., currently residing in Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the age of 97. He was born on October 22, 1919 to Edgar Henry Wilder and Ethel Delilah Comstock Wilder in Rocky Ford, Colorado. After graduating high school, Dr. Wilder completed college and then graduated from Kansas University Medical School in 1944. He married his sweetheart, Dorothy Lancaster, that same year. After completion of his internship in Toledo, Ohio, he joined the United States Army Air Corp, where he served as a Captain until 1948. Upon his release from the service, he moved with his family to Falfurrias, Texas. He practiced medicine in Falfurrias from 1948 - 1991.
During the life of his practice, he served 16 years on the Brooks County ISD School Board and two terms as a Brooks County Commissioner. The community in which Dr. Wilder practiced, was something he always felt great passion and love for the people. He and his partner, Dr. Dick Penly, started the first hospital in Falfurrias. He was a photographer, a painter, and a woodcarver in his spare time. He was deeply loved by his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He has been a long time member of the First United Methodist Church.
Dr. Wilder is preceded in death by his parents; wife of over 68 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Louise Lancaster Wilder and three sisters, Josephine Scott, Lucille Kite and Arlene French.
Dr. Wilder is survived by his son, Dr. Thomas (Erin) Wilder of Corpus Christi, Texas; two daughters, Cindy (Garner) Foley of Boerne, Texas and Connie (Monroe) Whitman of Arlington, Washington; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Falfurrias with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Falfurrias Burial Park.
