Maria Elma Maldonado

Maria Elma M. Maldonado, of Falfurrias, Texas, met her Lord on Saturday, August 18, 2012. Elma suffered a short and unexpected illness. She was treated at Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. Elma was fondly known as “Mere” to her friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents Eva (Gonzalez) and Juan Maupin Maldonado, her sister Raquel M. Perez and her brothers Placido II, Rene, Roberto and David M. Maldonado.

Elma is survived by her sisters Rebecca M. Casas of Falfurrias, Texas; Soila Maldonado of San Antonio, Texas; brother Johnny M. Maldonado of Corpus Christi, Texas; numerous nephews/nieces, great nephews/nieces and great great nephews/nieces.

Elma attended the Brooks County school system and Texas A&I University-present Texas A&M University Kingsville in Kingsville, Texas. She made a career of expressing her creativity and her flair for decorating. As a florist, she designed beautiful floral arrangements. Her design sense was evident in her fabulous wardrobe. Elma was the poster child for “shop till you drop”-a pastime that provided many hours of pleasure and bonding with her sisters, nieces , great nieces and great great nieces.

Elma was very active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She served as a Guadalupana and attended Crusillo Retreats. She was a member of the Woodmen of World Life Insurance Society. She served as treasurer for the local WOW chapter. She served as a substitute teacher in the Brooks County ISD for fifteen years and retired as a florist. Elma devoted her life to her parents. Although, her life ended abruptly and much too soon, we the family, are happy knowing she is now with them. Elma will be dearly missed by all!

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 and be officiated by Father Mathew J. Stephan. Graveside Services will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Falfurrias on Wednesday, August 22, 2012..

The following served as Pallbearers: Oel Villa of San Antonio, Texas, Rey Perez of Harlingen, Texas, Omar Maldonado of Edinburg, Texas, Margarito “Mito” Perez of Freeport, Texas, Cosme Tijerina, Jr. of Falfurrias, Texas, Edward Perales of Corpus Christi, Texas and Luis Reyes of Falfurrias, Texas. Honorary Pallbearer is Alberto Maldonado, Sr. of Kingsville, Texas.
