

Miguel B. Lopez, eldest of 10 siblings, was called home on Thursday July 8, 2021 at the age of 71. He was surrounded by family in Victoria, Texas and passed peacefully. Mike was born on October 24, 1949 in Falfurrias, Texas to the late Olayo Lopez, Sr. and Maria Elena Lopez.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jose Manuel Lopez and Gabriel Lopez; grandson, OscarRowe Guadalupe Sanchez and great- granddaughter, Kehlani Anna Rodriguez.
He is survived by his three daughters, Anna Rodriguez of Port Lavaca, Texas, Andrea (Joe) Hernandez of Port Lavaca, Texas and Ada (Michael) Madden of New Braunfels, Texas; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by four brothers, Onofre Lopez, Olayo Lopez, Jr., Roberto Lopez, and Gilbert (Ruth) Lopez and three sisters, Diana Lopez, Sylvia (Wito Trevino) Lopez and Graciela (Rey) Villarreal and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was a long-time journalist before becoming a public relations consultant and a top advisor for LULAC. He obtained an Associate’s Degree from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas before transferring to Texas A&I Kingsville and majoring in journalism. He was a Reporter and Photographer for Alice, Alvin, Brenham, and Port Lavaca newspapers. Mike was a member of the American GI Forum, an active LULAC member for 45 years, and one-time President of the Port Lavaca Calhoun County Jaycees. Mike went onto become a Senior Legislative Aide to members of the US House of Representatives and then a Director of Public Affairs and Governmental Issues for Bexar Met Water District in San Antonio, Texas. Mike was the owner of Public Relations Consulting Firm Lopez Advisory Services and it was through this that he met with nearly every U.S. President since Richard Nixon. In 2020, Mike was honored with the Tejano Service Award from Texas A&I Kingsville, an award acknowledging his lifetime of achievements and contributions as a political activist.

Visitation will be held on July 13, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams, 1208 S. Saint Mary’s St., Falfurrias, Texas. Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 400 W. Travis St., Falfurrias, Texas.
