Omar Garza entered eternal rest on Monday, February 9, 2026, at a nursing home in Falfurrias, Texas, at the age of 53. He passed peacefully while listening to his favorite song, “Dreams” by Stevie Nicks.
Omar was born on May 16, 1972, in Falfurrias, Texas, to Esequiel “Cheque” Garza and Elida Buenrostro Garza. He grew up alongside his brother, Gilbert, and sister, Mellie. The three shared a close bond and fond memories, including the nicknames they gave each other. Omar was “Super Ratón” (Mighty Mouse) and Mellie as Wonder Woman.
Omar worked for more than 20 years as a paramedic, a career that perfectly reflected his passion for helping others and saving lives. After a job-related injury left him unable to continue working, he faced many challenges, yet he never lost his kindness, generosity, or desire to serve others.
An avid music lover, Omar could spend hours listening to music or watching music videos. He deeply admired his nieces and nephews and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them, especially when he got the chance to babysit. Omar had a unique way of showing gratitude, often overpaying his debts simply to say thank you. He loved getting to know people, never judging anyone, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Always on the move, he found it hard to sit still and kept himself busy whenever possible.
Though he endured a difficult season after becoming disabled, Omar remained focused on helping others and living with compassion. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his love of music, and the genuine kindness he showed to everyone he met.
Omar is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Israel and Endelia Garza, and maternal grandparents, Prajedis and Bertha Buenrostro.
He is survived by his parents; Esequiel “Cheque” and Elida Garza; sister, Esmeralda “Mellie” (John) Burdett; brother, Gilbert E. Garza all of Concepcion, Texas; ten nieces and nephews, Jazzlyn Burdett, Journey Burdett, John Derek Montalvo, Dylan Trevino, Dayden Trevino, Ja’Nessa Montalvo, Cash Burdett, Destiny Garza, John Derek Burdett, and Dalayhla Burdett; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with Visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Falfurrias.
