Petra G. Herrera entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at her residence in Falfurrias, Texas, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 94. She was born November 6, 1929 to Eugenio Garcia and Cresencia Saenz Garcia in Premont, Texas.
Petra graduated from Premont High School in 1947. She later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Texas Woman’s College in Denton, Texas and then received her Master’s degree from Texas A&I University. She educated students at schools in Falfurrias, Edinburg, Houston, and Premont and was an active member of the communities she lived in. She was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association and retired from teaching after 40 years of service.
Petra married the love of her life, Romualdo, in 1956 and together they created a beautiful life with their three sons, Oscar, Rafael and Roberto. Through their actions, Petra and Romualdo instilled in their children the importance of family, education, and community involvement. Her greatest love was her family. They took many summer vacations RVing to national parks in the US and Canada. Their favorite was Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Petra especially enjoyed having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the ranch watching them play and run around. At Christmas-time, she would make cookies and tamales with her granddaughters while making sure the boys got the grill going outside. Her endless love, laughter, hugs and kisses will be greatly missed by her family.
Petra reunited in heaven with her husband, Romualdo Lopez Herrera; parents, Eugenio and Cresencia Garcia and sister-in-law, Maria Luisa Herrera.
She leaves behind to reminisce on the many memories created her three sons, Oscar Romualdo Herrera of Falfurrias, Rafael Eugenio (Margaret) Herrera of El Granada, California and Roberto (Kim) Herrera of Boerne, Texas; sisters-in-law, Elena Herrera and Anita Mulanax both of Falfurrias; nine grandchildren, Carmen Gabriela Herrera, Gabriel Roberto Herrera, Kaden Ward, Kathryn (Jason) Joiner, Daniel Herrera, David (Misty) Herrera, Holly Herrera, Elena Luisa Herrera, and Bobby Herrera; four great-grandchildren, Charlotte Joiner, Owen Joiner, James Herrera, and Alexandra Rae Herrera and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.
