Ramon Navarro, Jr., lifetime resident of Falfurrias, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at a hospital in McAllen, Texas at the age of 83. He was born on May 21, 1936 to Ramon Navarro and Eloisa Saenz Navarro on the El Paisano Ranch in Jim Wells County, Texas. Ramon grew up on the ranch and was an all-around cowboy and cattle rancher. He was taught early in life by his father to respect the bible, his faith and never do injustice to his fellow man. After graduating from high school, where he was in football and a state recognized track mile runner, Ramon, attended college in Kansas on an athletic scholarship for a short period. There he took up boxing and became very good at it. He then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to work. He later moved back to Falfurrias and began working with the United States Department of Agriculture. He married his wife, Herlinda Noemi Morales Navarro and together they had three children.
After 35 years working with the USDA, he retired as the Executive Director for the surrounding counties and decided to venture out into politics. His main goal was to represent and help his fellow community members. He dedicated 12 years of his life as the Brooks County Commissioner, over 33 years to the Falfurrias Little League as a Coach for the White Sox, many years on the Brooks County Hospital Board and Brooks County Fair Association. Ramon was also featured in the book: Faces of the Great Southwest Texas, A Photo Essay/ Oral History of a Rare Breed by John F. Aceti. He documents his upbringing and a bit about his life. In Ramon’s free time, he loved to hunt, play pool, cook, play the harmonica, break horses and spend time with friends and family.
Ramon is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Herlinda Noemi Navarro, two infant siblings, brothers, Roberto Navarro and sisters, Eva Navarro Carrasco and Ester Navarro Longoria.
He leaves behind to cherish the wonderful memories made his three children, Ramon (Fatima) Navarro, IV of Mission, Texas, Anna (Richard David) Villarreal of Los Fresnos, Texas and Sylvia (Christopher Leigh) Hellen of Marble Falls, Texas; three brothers, Reynaldo Navarro of La Joya, Texas, Elijio (Elva) Navarro of Corpus Christi, Texas and Rene (Janice) Navarro of Milwaukee; sisters, Emma Petri of Premont, Texas, Elida Navarro Garza and Elva Villarreal both of Falfurrias; eight grandsons, Ramon Navarro, V, Marco Antonio Navarro, Alessandro Navarro, Sebastian Navarro, Ryan David Villarreal, Christopher Aaron (Lauren) Villarreal, Charles William Hellen, II and Christopher Leigh Hellen, Jr; two great-grandchildren, Ember Eden Villarreal and Archer Elliott Villarreal; one great-granddaughter on the way, Amaryana Mae Navarro and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias. Funeral Procession will depart at 9:45 a.m. to the Church of the Brethren in Falfurrias for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service and then proceed to the Falfurrias Burial Park for burial.
