

Rene Mario Pena, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 29, 2015 in Benavides, Texas at the age of 69. He was born August 7, 1946 in Laredo, Texas to Golfrey Pena, Sr. and Celestina Petra Mendez Pena. Rene proudly served our country in the United States military. He was the Assistant Supervisor for the Jim Hogg County Water District before his retirement. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Olivero Pena; two nephews, Carlos Pena, Jr. and Joseph Pena; father-in-law, Pablo Valdez, Jr.; brother-in-law, Beto Valdez and sister-in-law, Gloria Valdez. He leaves behind to cherish his wonderful memories his loving wife, Zulema V. Pena of Hebbronville, Texas; sons, Rene Mario (Graciela) Pena, Jr. of McAllen, Texas, Roel (Alicia) Pena of Hebbronville and Ruben (Clarisa) Pena of Benavides, Texas; brothers, Tranquilino (Elma) Pena of Hebbronville, Corando (Oralia) Pena of Hebbronville, Juan (Thelma) Pena of Hebbronville, Jorge (Diane) Pena of Midland, MI, Golfrey (Lu) Pena, Jr. of Alice, Texas, Silvano (Palmira) Pena of Hebbronville, Carlos (Lucy) of Corpus Christi, Texas and Albert Pena of Hebbronville; sister, Iren (Elmo) Miller of Belize, Central America; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tranquilino Pena, Golfrey Pena, Jr., Carlos Pena, Corando Pena, Juan Pena, Jorge Pena, Silvano Pena and Irene Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Lee Henry, Marcus Pena, Martin Pena, Mark Valdez, Silvano Pena, II, Johnny Pena, Rene Pena, Mike Inocencio, Michelle Pena, Carlos Gallardo, Joe Garcia and Poncho Carpentier.
Holy rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams with visitation beginning at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville. Interment will follow at the New Hebbronville Cemetery.
