

Romualdo Lopez Herrera entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at a hospital in Houston, Texas at the age of 86. He was born on February 5, 1929 to Rafael Lopez Herrera and Sinforiana Guerra Herrera in Falfurrias, Texas. Romualdo attended grade school in Falfurrias and graduated with the class of 1946. He then attended the University of Houston where he graduated with a Pharmacy Doctorate in 1951, which was the first class to graduate with this degree. Romualdo also proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was stationed at Lackland and Randolph Air Bases the first 3 years and then he served his last year in Korea. He received several medals and then was honorably discharged holding the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He then married his sweetheart Petra García in 1956 and they had three sons who he was very proud of. Oscar and Roberto graduated from the University of Texas and Rafael is a graduate of MIT. Romualdo worked almost his entire lifetime as a Pharmacist until 2003 when he retired after 52 years of employment. In 1961 he got involved in ranching and farming and enjoyed it till his last days. He also served as Chairman and Director of Loma Blanca Soil and Water Conservation District, headquartered in Falfurrias, since October 1, 2001. During his tenure as a member of the Loma SWCD Board of Directors, he assisted the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service coordinate a soil and water resource conservation program for Brooks County. He was an active member of the committee of 100 and the Public Information-Education Program Committee with the Texas Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, headquartered in Temple, Texas. He also served as Chairman of the South Texas Association of Conservation Districts, covering 22 South Texas counties from 2008 to 2010. He was also working with Texas A&M Kingsville University on experimental citrus trees and trees that are resistant to cold weather.
He was welcomed into the gates of Heaven by his parents.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Petra G. Herrera of Falfurrias; three sons, Oscar Romualdo Herrera of Falfurrias, Rafael Eugenio (Margaret) Herrera of California and Roberto (Kim) Herrera of Boerne, Texas; three sisters, Maria Luisa Herrera, Elena Herrera and Anita Mulanax all of Falfurrias; nine grandchildren, Carmen Gabriela Herrera, Gabriel Roberto Herrera, Kaden Ward, Kathryn (Jason) Joiner, Daniel Herrera, David Herrera, Holly Herrera, Elena Luisa Herrera and Bobby Herrera and two nieces, Annette (Greg) Nichols and Janet (Scott) Adkins.
Pallbearers will be Oscar, Roberto, Rafael, David, Daniel, Gabriel and Bobby Herrera. Honorary Pallbearers will be Balde De Luna, Oscar Garcia, Felix Saenz and Raul Salinas.
A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams with visitation to beginning at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
