On September 20, 2018, Zulema R. Almaraz, 86, passed away peacefully in Corpus Christi, Texas with her children by her side. She was born on October 8, 1931 to Tomas Rodriguez and Zulema Martinez Rodriguez in Palito Blanco, Jim Wells County, Texas and was a longtime resident of Falfurrias, Texas. She married her husband, Lauro Almaraz on December 14, 1952 at the St. Francis Church in San Diego, Texas. Her greatest love in this world was her children, grandchildren and her plants and flowers.
Zulema is predeceased by her husband, Lauro Almaraz, her grandson, Robert Thomas Gill, brothers, Jose Armando Martinez and Demetrio Martinez and sister, Margarita Trevino.
She is survived by three children, Lauro Alamaraz Jr., Dalia A. Pena and Jose Maria (Kathy) Almaraz and, all of Corpus Christi; six grandchildren, Daniella Zulmit Almaraz, Lauro Almaraz III, Kaleb N. Pena, Joseph Aaron Almaraz, Sophia Elena Almaraz and Isabella Grace Almaraz; brothers, Miguel (Mary) Martinez, Adam (Norma) Martinez and Alberto (Elena) Martinez; sisters, Juanita Gonzalez, Eva (Floyd) Barrera and Lupita Gonzalez and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias. Burial will follow at the Falfurrias Burial Park.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Cimarron Rehab and Nursing and the Atlus Hospice nurses that attended to Zulema, in particular James Hampton, AnaLee and Amanda.
