Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Geraldine Wells-Martin
Geraldine “Nana” Wells-Martin announced to the world, “It’s Showtime” on December 18, 1922 when she was born to Thomas and QueenEtta Jones in Memphis, TN.
She and her brother, Lee Vernon “LV” lost their mother when Geraldine was 10 years old. She and LV lived with Aunt Catherine and Uncle Luther who played a huge role in her life. Her sibling count then grew exponentially from one to 10!
Geraldine accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, being a faithful member of Belle Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the Memphis area. In her teens, she resided with Ada Thurman until Geraldine married.
Geraldine was an active member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago. She later joined Robert Wells in holy matrimony, raising Earl and Harold Watson, and bringing a daughter to this union, Patricia Wells-Belt.
Geraldine had a very successful sales career with the world-renowned, Carnation Company. Her experience led her to be a trailblazer in the field of Real Estate. She established Wells Realty where she not only sold, but also owned property throughout the City of Chicago and surrounding areas.
Later in life, Geraldine met and wed, Clemon Martin. Geraldine and Clemon enjoyed a life of travel together, including winters in Arizona. Her loved ones carry on that desire to travel and enjoy new experiences.
On Tuesday, January 18, 2022, Geraldine took the step to rejoice in heaven with her parents, Thomas and QueenEtta, brother Lee Vernon, son Harold Watson, nephews Calvin, Veodis, Edward Lee and Curtis “CJ” Jones, niece Beverly “Tina” Jones-Bormentar, grandson Marcus Palmer and husbands Robert Wells and Clemon Martin.
Her love and legacy live on through her daughter Patricia, son Earl, grandchildren Charles, Tarji, Eddie (LaChon), Jackie (Thomas), Ramon and Steven, great-grandchildren Ciara, TaMesha, Thomas Jr., Jonathan, Joshua, Jessika, LaMetrice, Xavier and Isaiah, great-great-grandson Asher, and nephews Lee Vernon Jr (Deborah) of Plano, TX, Shawn Reese (Stacye) and Daniel Jones (Denise) of Memphis, TN.
Geraldine leaves a very special cousin, who is more like a sister, Virginia Johnson of St. Louis, MO, loving caregivers Niecee, Gwen and Arnita, a host of great-nieces and -nephews, and a multitude of cousins nationwide. We extend a warm hug to cousins Lee Vernon, Shawn, Jennifer, Darnella and Carolyn who traveled the miles to be with us, and a virtual hug to those who are with us in spirit.
We rejoice here on earth for Geraldine’s life and legacy. Keep this in mind, as she has said many times,
“I’m too blessed to be stressed!”
