Nell Louisa McAdams, the daughter of Louise McAdams and James Walker, was born Sept. 4, 1941, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. During her childhood, she moved to North Chicago, Illinois with her family. Nell accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in North Chicago.
She graduated from North Chicago High School in 1959. In 1963, she married Dr. Arnold Eugene Joyner. Three children, Saretta, Tamila (Tami) and Carolyn were born to this union. The family moved to Oak Park, Illinois in 1971.
Nell was an energetic, loving and jazzy lady. There were no strangers to her, only friends that she had yet to meet. Nell knew how to make other people feel comfortable and at ease. She made friends everywhere she went. She developed close friends who she considered as family members.
Nell was always willing to provide a helping hand for anyone in need.
She cared for family members during their illnesses, including her mother and later her daughter Tami, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was a dedicated employee at Chico's, Market Facts, Spector Red Ball Inc. and Montgomery Ward. Her employment included retail, marketing research and data entry.
Nell was a phenomenal salesperson. She earned her real estate license. She was also a licensed cosmetologist. She sold Mary Kay cosmetics and later Avon products. She was a natural for her post-retirement retail job at Chico's boutique in River Forest where she worked up until the very end.
Being a member of the Columbus Park Line Dancers brought Nell great joy. She loved spending time weekly with this lively group of fellow seniors. And no family gathering was complete without her sharing her latest line dancing moves.
Nell was a faithful member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church, Maywood, Illinois, with pastor Rev. Marvin E. Wiley.
Nell leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Saretta Joyner of Forest Park, Illinois and Dr. Carolyn Fitzpatrick (James) of Oak Park, her grandchildren Maya and Jordan Patush of Forest Park and Justin, Jalen, Jacinda and Julian Fitzpatrick of Oak Park, a beloved sister-in-law Veronica Plummer of Atlanta, Georgia, loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of very close and dear friends and neighbors.
