Algie D. “Al” Lester, 81, of Fort Wayne, passed away on August 19, 2018. Born on April 19, 1937, in Roanoke, Virginia, he was a son of the late Dudley and Moselle (Bishop) Lester. Graduated Central High School, class of 1956. He proudly served his country in the Army; worked at Lepley Electric for nine years before joining the Allen County Building Department, then retiring after 19 years of service. After retirement he taught at Anthis Career Center and Ivy Tech. He was a member of the American Legion Post #47, the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, and the National Woodcarvers Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana Herriott; and son, Michael (Robin) Lester, both of Fort Wayne; granddaughter, Brandy Herriott of Fort Wayne, great grandaughter Vera Speck of Fort Wayne, and sister, Ruth Millner of Roanoke, VA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Martha Kay (Teeters) Lester, brother, John Paul Lester, and sister, Yvonne Vaught.
Funeral service will be 10am, Saturday, August 25, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm, Friday, August 24, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to the Rescue Mission.
