

Blanche Alice (Mourey) Schaefer, 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home. Born near Monroeville on July 15, 1927, Blanche was seventh of the eleven children of the late Leonard & Eva (Dodane) Mourey. Blanche married her forever love, Elmer Schaefer on July 19th, 1947. Her four passions were her faith, her family, music and service to others. Blanche never met a service project she didn’t love and embrace. She loved to sing and shared her beautiful voice as a Cantor at Queen of Angels Catholic Church and was a member of the Goldenaires for 23 years. Blanche lived a servant’s life and volunteered at St. Pat’s Closet, Catholic Charities, headed up Queen of Angel’s funeral dinners and spent 24 years helping out at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, along with numerous other service projects. She also sang to and cared for 23 foster babies. Blanche was deeply devoted to and is survived by Elmer, her husband of 68 years. She will also be missed by her two sons: Ted (Lola) Schaefer of Dawsonville, Georgia and Steve (Cheryl Livingston) Schaefer of Fort Wayne, her four daughters: Mary Kay (Don) Ehlerding of Fort Wayne, LuAnn (Lyle) Lantz of Cape Coral, Florida, Elaine (Scott) Jones of Lakewood, Colorado and Molly (Dave) Banko of Marietta, Georgia, two siblings: Maxine Rorick and Jim Mourey of Fort Wayne, 19 grandchildren and 14½ great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight siblings. Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday, March 23rd at 10:30 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also on Tuesday, March 22nd from 3 to 8 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. She will be laid to rest in Lindenwood Cemetery. Preferred memorials to Queen of Angels Catholic Church or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
