Donald H. Knopf died Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Parkview Regional Medical Center at the age of 83. He was born October 20, 1936 in Rogers City, MI. Donald was a son of the late Henry and Helma Knopf.
Donald came to Ft. Wayne at the age of 14 to receive his education at Concordia Lutheran High School, Concordia Junior College, and Concordia Senior College. He furthered his education at Concordia University River Forest, IL and at St. Francis University in Ft. Wayne, having received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary education. Donald taught middle grades in Lutheran schools in Michigan and Fort Wayne. He also taught middle grades in the East Allen County School District, having spent most of his 38 years of teaching at Hoagland Elementary and Harlan Elementary Schools. When Historic Ft. Wayne opened, Donald was an interpreter, serving as the French baker, “Louis Bourrée”. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church (Jefferson Blvd.) and sang in the choir. Donald also served on the L.C.M.S. Indiana District Archives Committee.
Donald is survived by Linda, his wife of 60 years, a son, Timothy, of Bloomington, IN, a daughter, Alison, of Indianapolis, IN, two brothers, Eldon (Sally) Knopf, Elwood (Linda) Knopf, and a sister, Karen Liedtke, all of Rogers City, MI.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home. The funeral service will be private with burial at Concordia Cemetery Gardens.
