Doris Ann Mills

Doris Ann Mills, 85 passed peacefully with her eldest son and daughter at her side on Friday, October 7, 2022. She was born in Columbia City and raised on a farm and loved animals. Her family moved to Fort Wayne when she was a teenager. She graduated from South Side High School in 1955. A trailblazer, Mom drove a semi-truck and owned her own rig. She was one of the first women truck drivers. With her adventurous spirit, travel was important to Mom: Mackinac Island, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and the west were among the places she enjoyed. For many trips, Mom drove her motorcycle too. Mom was happiest at the lake, boating, swimming, and waterskiing with friends and family. She waterskied into her 50’s. Mom was “one of a kind.” She is survived by her children, Rochelle (Neil Richards) Mills, Scott (Deb) Mills, Joseph (Danielle Tarmey) Mills; and grandchildren, Cora Mills Rowe, Noelle, and Benjamin Mills-Tarmey. Special thanks to the staff at Bethlehem Woods Augusta Cottages who loved and cared for our mom for ten years. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior.
