

EDWIN FREDERICK BOKNECHT, 96 went to be with the Lord and his girls on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020. He was a son of Edwin and Esther Boknecht of Decatur, Ind., and the brother of Robert Boknecht. Ed was a devoted husband and father. He married Dorothy Harriett Young on June 26, 1948, and they celebrated 68 years together. They had a daughter Dianne (Steve Koch). Ed worked with his dad at the family Service Station in Decatur, Ind., for a few years. He then worked at the Indiana Rod and Wire Division of Phelps Dodge for over 39 years. After retirement he continued to work part time with the exhibit builder Customcraft and then Image Exhibits. Ed honorably served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Force on a B-24 Bomber and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. In 2013, Ed celebrated his military service with a trip on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC, which was a real highlight arranged by his daughter. His interests included, RC flying and crashing, golf, was a longtime Cubs and IU basketball fan. His great PASSION was Lake George where he enjoyed friends, boating, fishing and sailing his Inland Cat. Sitting on his back porch at the cottage he built and greeting passerbys was another of his favorite pastimes at the lake!! Ed will remembered by his nieces, nephews, and other family in addition to his many close friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dianne on April 2, 2016; and his wife, Dorothy of Nov. 2, 2016. He missed them dearly. Memorial Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Face coverings are required.
