I knew Jack in  the 50s when He and I played drums for his sister Jane's twirling corps. He was sweet and loveable and so loved Jane and his parents,  I discovered Jack's obituary in June of this year ,but I didn't respond because I thought it would bring more sadness on his family  I'm  truly sad for his passing . 


I was fortunate to have worked with Jack for several years, but I was even more fortunate to have Jack as a friend.  He was one of those brainy, techy types with a great personality and sense of humor.  He was so proud of his family and talked about his kids,  grandkids and sister often.  Jack approached me to see if I could snoop around to find out if Becky would be agreeable to Jack asking her on a date.  We all know the rest of that story.  I'm so sorry for his loss and know that his family and friends will always cherish Jack's memory.

Were so sorry for your families loss, I just watch the tribute to your father and Husband and I was very nice. I watched Joel, Julie and Kim all grow up as living next to your parents was enjoyable. I am so sorry  for your loss of Jack. He was a very kind, gentle hearted man. My fondest memory of Jack was shortly after he moved into his new home he decided to paint the lattice out on his back deck. Somehow, I was recruited to help him which I didn’t mind. I always enjoyed Jack’s company and listening to his many stories. On this particular day, Jack and I had a conversation about a particular young lady at work that he had his eye on. He told me what he knew about her and told me he thought she was beautiful and he was trying to get the courage to ask her out on a date. I remember him asking “ Is it ok for a man my age to ask a lady out on a date?” He was like a teenage boy who had a crush on the cute girl in class.  This conversation went on for hours as we painted. I am glad he found that courage. He eventually married that young lady and what a blessing she has been to the Flaningan family. I am glad I got to spend that time with Jack. I will always remember Jack as a gentle soul who loved to share everything he knew with you.  He will be missed by everyone he touched.  You are all in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.  

Jack started working for us part time in 2018.  I remembe he came in to buy one of our used oscilloscopes, and in the conversation,  we discovered he and I were both ex-Magnavox employees. I immediately started recruiting! A couple weeks later he called and asked "can WE come in for an interview"? I thought to myself "we"? A week later he showed up with his lovely bride Becky,  who promptly hand signalled for me to take him....NOW!🤣 For Becky, a break from his engineering mind...??? But for us,  Jack,  a "retired" engineer he was "the bargain of the month".. 

He was (almost:) always in good spirits and we often joked about the good ol' days at Magnavox. Each time Jack would come to work, he would head out to the warehouse,  to see what kind of "goodies" had come in since his last visit. He was like a kid in a candy store! Jack could hardly wait to share his next "treasure find" with whomever would listen. It was really phunny. 

All of us here at OER are truly saddened at the loss of our friend and coworker,  Jack Flaningan . We will sorely miss Jack and his smile.

Dad you were such an amazing role model and leader for our family that I don't even know how we are ever going to fill a portion of the void that has been left.  I was blessed to call you my dad and I am at peace knowing you are at home with our Lord and Savior and are reunited with Mom and your parents once again.  I love you dad and I miss you dearly and I will forever be your little girl!
