

Joseph S. Sommer, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away on March 19, 2015. Born on March 18, 1926, in Harlan, he was the son of the late William and Lyle Sommer. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp, was a member of the American Legion post #409, Leo and retired as CEO of Grabill Cabinet Company after 45 years of service.
Joe was a man of great faith. He loved his church, family and was passionate about his woodworking and shipbuilding. He loved spending time outdoors tending his flowers, fishing with his sons, visiting his daughter and her family in northern Minnesota and spending time with his beloved dog Bogie.
He is survived by his children, Terri (Tom) Cooney, Robin Sommer and Patrick (Jill) Sommer; grandchildren, Kyle, Hilary, Spencer, Erin, Shannon and Shea; five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife Laurette S. Sommer, in 2013; son, Scott Sommer, in 2009; grandson, Cameron; and twin sister, Joan McMahan.
Memorial service will be 11am Thursday March 26, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Ave, Fort Wayne, with calling from 9:30 to 11am, prior to service. Memorial donations in memory of Joe Sommer may be given to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne.
