Maria Mutafchiev Dobreff-Smith

Maria Dobreff-Smith, 72, of Fishers, died Tues. July 31, 2012 at I.U. Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, she immigrated to the United States with her husband and daughter in 1969. “Maria loved spending winters with her family in California”. She retired from Macy’s (L.S. Ayres) in 2008 as a Sales Associate. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Noblesville and was also a former member of St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church and St. Joseph United Methodist Church, both in Fort Wayne. She is survived by her husband Russell of Fishers; daughter, Nada (Greg) Gerig of Noblesville; grandsons, Justen and Chad Gerig; sister, Peggy (John) Janakiev; niece, Marina (George) Kohout; step-daughter, Robin Phillips; step-sons, Randall (Laura) Smith and Ronald (Leanne) Smith; five step grandchildren and one step great grandson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dobri Dobreff, who died in 2000; and her parents, Dimitar and Cvetanka Mutafchiev. Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Sat. Aug. 4, 2012 at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 6004 Reed Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Russ Abel and Pastor Jeff Buck officiating. Visitation will also be held on Fri. Aug. 3, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Entombment in Concordia Cemetery Gardens.
