Richard N. Ramsey

Arlington Ramsey and Eva Poff Ramsey of Beloit, Wisconsin, died peacefully at home on

January 6, 2022, following an extended illness. After graduating from the University of

Wisconsin, Madison (BS,1963), he served as First Lieutenant in the US Army Infantry, and was

honorably discharged in 1970. He continued his education at the University of Illinois,

Champaign-Urbana (MA, 1969, PhD, 1973), majoring in Restoration and 18th-Century British

Literature. He began his career as an Assistant Professor teaching literature and writing at

SUNY Geneseo, and moved to Fort Wayne in 1979 where he became an Associate Professor in

the IPFW Department of English & Linguistics. During his 28 years at IPFW, he taught literature

and writing classes, served as Director of Writing, Director of Graduate Studies, and Department

Chair, and retired in 2007. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Yvonne (Akers) Ramsey; three

children, Will (Rachel) of Fort Wayne, Ed (Sarah) of Cincinnati, and Katy of Bloomington; six

treasured grandchildren, Marshall, Molly, and Mila of Fort Wayne, and Silas, Titus, and Judah of

Cincinnati; sisters-in-law Char Mae (Neal, d.) Frysinger, Laura (Doug) Welch, Teresa (Richard,

d.) Brown, Diane (Richard) Skeffington, Darcy (Todd) Voeks, and brother-in-law Vincent (Robin)

Akers; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in

death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. Arrangements by Hockemeyer & Miller

Funeral Home. A remote service will be scheduled in the coming weeks, with details to be

made available on the Hockemeyer & Miller website. The family asks that in lieu of flowers,

those who wish to contribute to a charitable organization consider The Brown Ink Society

(through the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne), Community Harvest Food Bank, or
