Bill passed away on March 28, 2010.After a long battle with cancer. He was Born 5 July 1943to Aileen (Boswell) and Earl W. Stokes in Rome, Georgia. He served 23 years in the US Army and served two tours in Vietnam. He received numerous awards and commendation’s, among his awards are two Bronze Stars with “V” Device, three Purple Hearts, Meritorious Service Award, Air Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and several Army Commendation Awards.
He served 20 years in Civil Service at Evans Army Hospital as Chief Manpower Branch, Resource Management Division. Retiring in June 2005.
Bill and his wife “Charlies” plan for traveling in their new R.V around the USA was cut short by his illness. He enjoyed RVing and fishing with his friends and family. He graduated from Regis (College) University in 1983 with a Bachelor’s in Management.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years Edeltraut (Schmette) Stokes of Fountain, CO, Sister Helen Byars of Rome, GA. A Daughter Trisha Rodeback of Fountain, CO, a Son Duane Stokes of San Antonio, TX, grandson’s Dylan Rodeback and Dakota Rodeback of Fountain, CO. a Grand Daughter Ashley Rodeback of Fountain, CO. His favorite son-in-law Nathan Rodeback of Fountain, CO. Numerous Neices, Cousins, Aunts in Rome Georgia. He was preceded in death by his Father Earl W. Stokes, his Mother Ailenn D. Carter and a sister Dixie Mae Stokes.
Bill’s greatest love and joy was his family and friends. Bill would like to thank his Doctor Maurice Markus and Oncology Nurse Mary Jo Lehman for all the care, friendship and concern they provided and the wonderful folks at the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center.
A visitation will be on Tuesday, April 6 from 4pm to 7pm at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary 6630 S. Hwy 85/87 Fountain, CO. A memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at Soldiers Chapel 6333 Martinez Street Fort Carson, CO on Wednesday April 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers he requests that you donate to the American National Cancer Society.
