

Cathy Jean Mullins, age 78, was born to Annie Mae Hedgepeth on February 19, 1947, in Warren County, Warrenton, North Carolina. As a child, she lived in Richmond, Virginia. She moved to Hampton, Virginia, where she graduated from Phenix High School and attended Hampton Institute. She was employed by Hampton’s Community Action Agency. During this time, in July 1964, she met the one, Thomas L. Mullins, Sr. They were engaged on December 25, 1967. Their wedding was held on October 5, 1968, at the West End Baptist Church. Their reception took place at the Neighborhood Center in Hampton, Virginia.
Thomas and Cathy moved to Falls Church, Virginia, where she worked full-time as a secretary and later retired as a Level 15 Management Analyst for the Department of the Army. Cathy received many awards for her work. She enjoyed working with the community and decided to join the Eastern Star, P.H.A., where she received many awards for her dedication and service. She worked her way up in the Eastern Star and was elected as the Worthy Matron of Pride of Fairfax chapter #255 in Alexandria, Virginia. Cathy was the treasurer for many years, and in 2008-2009, she was the Worthy Matron of the Year.
Cathy was a member of Mt. Moriah Court #5 and was elected as the Royal Commandress of Mt. Moriah #5 in Alexandria, Virginia. She also received Royal Commandress of the Year and the Court of the Year. Cathy was given the distinguished title Past Most Royal Grand Commandress for the Most Royal Grand Court of Cyrene of Virginia, P.H.A. and the title Royal Grand C.C.F.C. Cathy was also a member of Magnus Court #100, Oasis of Alexandria, Virginia, and was elected Commandress of the Court. In 2006, she received Past Commandress of the Year of the Virginia Desert Conference of Courts Daughter of Isis.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Mae Hedgepeth and Lloyd Theodore Hedgepeth; sisters Emma Battle and Lucy Harrison; brothers Lloyd Hedgepeth, Jr., and Elder Ricky A. Hedgepeth. The following family and friends cherish her memory: her husband Thomas L. Mullins, Sr. (married 57 years); her two sons Perry O. Mullins and Thomas L. Mullins, Jr. (LaChelle); Sisters Ann Waring (Larry), Patricia Lambert and Evangelist Cynthia Weaver (Marvin) and brother Elder Calvin Hedgepeth (Angelina); Grandchildren: Sharisa Mullins, Orlando Mullins, Danielle Mullins, Mariah Mullins, Madisyn Mullins, Camryn Mullins, Thomas L. Mullins III; one great grandson, Ayden Chisholm and many nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
