David Franklin Green

Reverend David Franklin Green, 73, of Fredericksburg, VA reposed in the Lord on Friday, December 28, 2013. Rev. Green was a native of Van Buren, Arkansas and had resided in Fredericksburg for the past 20 years. He was a long-time Baptist minister and leaves behind a legacy of inspiration for many who had the pleasure of knowing him personally and from afar.

David was a U.S. Navy veteran having served as a Hospital Corpsman aboard U.S.S. Hector (AR 7). Upon his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy, he enrolled in Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and was ordained as a minister of the Gospel. He pastored Churches in Wade, Oklahoma, Basalt, Colorado, Cass, Timpson, and Houston Texas and Anchorage, Alaska. David also served as a Logistics Officer for the U.S. Department of Defense in Houston, Texas, Anchorage, Alaska, and at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He was a Life Member of The American Legion Spotsylvania Post 320.

For the past nine years, Rev. Green has served in leadership roles as a deacon, teacher and as pastor emeritus at Flat Run Baptist Church. David was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia for many years. He ministered to countless people, had a special place in his heart for the elderly and loved to sing.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jasper Lee (Jack) and Julia Latta Green; brothers, Jim, Homer, Ralph, and Howard Green and sisters Pat Campbell, Imogene Little Alexander, and Polly Van Zandt.

David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lena Joyce Green; two sons, David (Patricia) and Thomas (Kim) Green; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Flat Run Baptist Church in Locust Grove, VA. with Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service directing. Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery Monday, January 6, 2014 at 9:00 AM with full military honors.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, January 2, from 6 to 8 PM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg, VA.
