Doris was born on December 27, 1943, in Buckingham, Virginia, to Clinton Woodrow Ragland and Virginia Estelle Taylor. In May of 1964, she married the love of her life, James Stuart Taylor. Together they shared 58 beautiful years of marriage, raising two children, Michael and Michelle, and later becoming beloved grandparents. Known affectionately as “Nana” by her grandchildren, Doris was the heart and soul of her family.
A woman of quiet strength and deep devotion, Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was the kind of person whose warmth made everyone feel at home. Her home was a haven—always filled with love, laughter, the smell of something delicious cooking, and the gentle sound of gospel music or her favorite shows in the background.
Doris had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen, heard, and loved. Whether it was through her warm hugs, her listening ear, or her perfectly timed humor, Nana had a way of lifting spirits. She never missed a birthday, always remembered the little things, and her handwritten notes on homemade cards were cherished keepsakes.
She was also known for her exceptional cooking. Her deviled eggs were unmatched, her taco salad was unforgettable, and she made what her son-in-law considers to be the world’s best meatloaf. But perhaps most talked about was her homemade fudge—decadent, rich, and so perfectly made it melted in your mouth. It was the kind of treat that left a lasting impression and made holidays and family gatherings extra special.
Her faith in the Lord was her foundation. She lived her life with grace, humility, and unwavering love for her family. Doris found joy in life’s simple pleasures—gardening in the spring, baking during the holidays, and sharing stories around the kitchen table. And if you ever sat down to play Chicken Foot with her, you knew two things immediately: she took it seriously, and she was going to win.
Doris is survived by her children, Michael Taylor and Michelle Weaver, and their spouses, Miranda Taylor and Jason Weaver, whom she loved as her own. She was the proud Nana of Caleb and Madison Taylor, and Zachary, Rachel, and Jordan Weaver. She was also a joyful great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and delight.
Doris shared a lifelong love story with her husband, Stuart, who passed away in 2022. Not a day went by that she didn’t speak of him with admiration and love. Their bond was a beautiful example of partnership, faith, and enduring love. We find comfort in knowing that they are now reunited in Heaven—hand in hand, just as they always were.
Doris will be missed beyond words. Her love, compassion, and quiet strength will forever live on in the lives she touched. We take solace in knowing that her legacy of faith, kindness, and family will continue to guide us.
