I remember how stylish you were. When you would enter church with your beautiful hats or flowers in your hair.  I loved visiting you at your house on the hill and shared your love of Gone With The Wind.  I know you are dancing away with so many of our loved one who have passed on.

Gabriella,  I never dreamed that my last visit with you would be our final one.    I am so sorry that you have left us so soon and I will never forget the day that we met and how we bonded immediately.  I had the privilege to attain your Memorial Service and it was very nice and meaningful to my heart. 
My sincere condolences to all your family and I know they will miss that cheerful smile and greeting you always had for all who were with you.  
 Many of us will remembered you as the smiling lady with the flower in your hair.  I think you will  become  a sparkling Star in the heavenly kingdom as you  continue this specialty while enjoying all of Heaven's choicest flowers … I can see it now as you celebrate LIFE with Jesus and all your loved ones  for all eternity.

I wrote a series of memories and posted a picture that didn't seem to make it.  No matter, the memories were for you Gabbie.  I did however want to try again to get the picture in from our 2004 "Hicks" family reunion.

Dear Gabbie, I know that you are at peace now with all of your loved ones and our Heavenly Father...without pain and suffering.  When I think of you my first thought is Scarlett from Gone with the Wind.   It was your favorite movie.  You looked so much like Vivian Leigh  when you were young and shared many of her characteristics.  You loved it when people made the comparison.  I will remember your joyous laugh and your big smile,  the way you would throw your head back when you did.  I remember that you always had a flower behind your ear.   It was your signature trade mark.  I remember how your always loved to dance.   When I was young ,you would dance with Cumpsie, Joy, and me in Mama's living room.    We all laughed as we watched ourselves in the big mirror over Mama's fireplace.  Sometimes you would sing...and unlike me you could actually carry a tune!   I was delighted that you were able to find the pleasure of ballroom dancing in your senior years.  It brought you such joy and you so loved the friends that you met at the dance studio.  They spoiled you with birthday celebrations, invitations to lunch, and dinner.   I had such fun the one time that I went to your ballroom dancing group with you. You so wanted someone in the family to watch you.  I'm glad that I could be the one.
I remember the trip to Hawaii that I organized.   Mama, Bascon, and you went with Ray and me, Mrs and Mrs. Samuels and my 8 students.  We all had such a great time and you so loved the flowers blooming everywhere, filling the air with such sweet smells!  You loved it so much that you returned to Hawaii at least one other time....maybe two.
I remember our "family" lunches  when you, Sonny, Dike and I would go out to Red Lobster, Panera, or the little Deli near the corner of William and Kenmore.  I remember all of the family reunions at our house.   And, as long a you are remembers, you will always be with  us.   With Love, your oldest niece, Sissie

I remember Gabriella & Bascome  from the late 60’s at First Christian and they inspired me to be more active. She was a grand lady and will be missed.

Aunt Gabbie, I’m so glad you are pain free and now  happy  to be with my Nana, ( your mother) your sisters Fannie, Deanie,  and  Dike ( Laura) -my  beloved mama -and your brothers Conway and Sonny . 
You will have lots of loved ones to keep you company now. I know they have welcomed you home to the family.  You  are now with the Angels and the Lord.  I’m sure your flower that you always wore in your hair will always be fragrant and beautiful.  I will always picture you at your beloved and exquisite home , Ingleside ; dressed to the nines, and a quiet smile on your face.  Rest In Peace Aunt Gabbie.

Gabriella was truly a wonderful lady. I have fond, fond memories of her.  She enjoyed inviting people over to her home and Gary and I enjoyed visiting with her.  She had a strong faith in the Lord and I am sure she is enjoying heaven.  I know her family will miss her and pray the comfort of the Holy Spirit will be theirs. 

Gabriella was a grand lady who was always involved in our church activities and was a special friend.  She was the ultimate hostess when she invited us into her home and was genuinely interested in sharing home with her guests.  As the sister to both Laura and Sonny, she was always part of a trio of a family that will always remain in our special memories and we will miss her grand style and friendship.  Our hearts go out to Joy, Shane and Aaron and we pray that they are comforted by their special memories of her.  

Gabriella was a part in a small group (Abba's Daughters) with us for a while where women shared, testified of God working in their lives, prayed for one another and looked for answers in the Bible.  She was always direct yet gentle as she talked with and mentored other women.  She truly showed the grace of God to those she met.  Such a blessing to so many lives including mine, and will be missed... but I am sure her memory will live on forever in the minds and hearts of those who knew her.

LORD continue to comfort this precious family... in Jesus name, amen
