He was the son of the late Raymond and Dorothy Hooper Taylor.
He was a retired executive with the Thomson Corporation (now Thomson Reuters) for many years, serving as President and CEO of Thomson Tax & Accounting Group and Lawyer’s Cooperative Publishing. He held leadership positions in Thomson Legal & Regulatory Group, West Publishing Group, and Thomson Legal Group. After retirement from the private sector, he served as the Deputy Public Printer for the United States until 2003. He held degrees from Ohio State University and the University of Virginia. He was proud of his service in the US Air Force.
He had served on the Board of Trustees for the American Inns of Court and Board of Directors for Foundation for Good Business in Raleigh, NC.
He is survived by his wife, Monecia Helton Taylor; his children Courtney Scullin and her husband, Andrew, of Minneapolis, MN; Amanda-Hunter Taylor and Montgomery Taylor of Roanoke; Travis Taylor of Fredericksburg; and his step-son Tommy Naggs of Odenton, MD. He had three grandchildren Hunter, McKensey, and Aidan Scullin; and his brother, Donald Taylor of Pensacola, FL.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010, at Noon, at St. George’s Church in Fredericksburg, VA. Inurnment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. One hour before the service the family will receive friends at a reception in Sydnor Hall at St. George’s Church.
