Gloria Jean Stegmaier (Baldwin), age 74, of Culpeper, Virginia passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 9, surrounded by family after succumbing to complications from a long illness. She was born in Cumberland, MD, to the late Wilbur and Anna Baldwin.
Jean, as she was called by everyone who knew her, was fiercely devoted to her family, her friends, and her country. She was a war orphan from Cumberland, MD. She raised her boys in Northern Virginia. In the 1980’s she was an active Avon representative, something she loved. Around 1990 she moved to Manassas, Virginia where she proudly became a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at All Saints Catholic Church. There she was also an early member of Ross Perot’s “United We Stand America” (UWSA). At one time as a member of that organization she proudly was the driving force behind efforts to fill and ship two 45 foot containers of flood relief to victims in Missouri.
After moving to Culpeper in 2000, she became active in the Red Hat Society, Republican politics and rural and historic conservation efforts in the Stevensburg/Brandy Station area. Her family attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Culpeper.
Fiercely competitive, she loved card and other games which she played with her children and grandchildren until the very end. She loved to “get the hell out of the house.”Her favorite things to do when she did get out was go to yard sales, shop, and she loved to go out to eat, but Jean and Tim agreed the best place to eat was their own home. She loved her flower gardens, and her favorite flowers were peonies.
And on top of all this, she was a successful businesswoman, operating numerous agricultural and silva cultural businesses thru the years.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tim ; three sons, Gerry and fiancée Dawn-Marie, Mike and wife Teressa and Chris and wife Maribeth; eleven grandchildren and step grandchildren, Tim, Drew, JP, Shelby, Mikey, Sebastian, Alexander, Christian, Blake, Travis and Coleman and her devoted caregiver and friend Amy Wilcox.
She is and will be greatly missed.
