He was born on October 11, 1956 in Alexandria, VA the son of the late Jack Dorson Rakes and Flora Jane (Corvin) Rakes. Mr. Rakes worked as a carpenter.
His wife, Wanda Fay Rakes, his son, Jason Michael Rakes, siblings, George Russell Rakes, Shane Patrick Taylor and Norma Jean Taylor all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his one daughter, Georgieanna Rakes; one son, Hank Garland Rakes, Jr; one brother, Jack Dorson Rakes, Jr.; one sister, Pansy Rose Lynch; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be a private family gathering
