Herbert “Sonny” L. Groves Sr., 88, passed away at Mary Washington Hospital on March 19th, 2018 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was born February 7th, 1930 to John Henry and Mattie Bell Groves in Baltimore, Maryland. On May 1st, 1954 he married Elizabeth Beatty and had 49 wonderful years with her. Elizabeth preceded Sonny in death on November 25, 2003.
Herbert L. Groves Sr. left a legacy of family to include his two sons; Herbert "Butch" Groves Jr., William Groves, and daughter Jackie Ritchey. His four grandchildren Tim Groves, MaryLynn Moore, Lizzie Ritchey, and Chase Ritchey; as well as many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He has also left behind a brother, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be performed at Mullins & Thompson on Friday, April 6th at 10am. There will also be a small graveside service to be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery at 1pm in Front Royal, Virginia.
