Maverick Gerald Thompson, 3, of Fauquier passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Children’s National Hospital. For the past year and a half he had been battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia, but sadly succumbed to the cancer after a Bone Marrow Transplant (that failed within 3 months) and receiving numerous rounds of Chemotherapy.
Although Maverick’s life was short, he had a major impact on the lives of those around him and the community at large. He was the light of his family's lives filling the days with snuggles, love, giggles, and funny catch phrases and adventures. He was the boss baby of the house, wrapping his older brother’s around his fingers. He made each family member feel as if they were his favorite. He brought joy to everyone who saw his bright smile and laughter to the nurses and doctors that he lassoed with exercise bands and stethoscopes. He brought our community together in fellowship to raise money to help with his medical expenses. He was truly a blessing and will be desperately missed.
He is survived by his parents, Travis and Jennifer Thompson; two brothers, Mason and Hunter; paternal grandmother, Linda Thompson; maternal grandparents, Ralph Franklin Bacon and Patricia Cobb; and numerous aunts and uncles: Reid and Ashley Thompson, Mark and Jahayra Bacon; Katie Bacon, and Allen Cobb.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel at 2:00 pm, with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be private.
The Celebration of life will be at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church after the service.
We ask that guests help celebrate some of Maverick’s favorite things during the service by wearing Mickey or Minnie Mouse attire/ ears/ or bows, Dinosaurs, Kitties, Red or Rainbows.
