Michael Lee Shoemaker, age 27, was a hardworking, fun man who was taken from us way to soon! He passed away unexpectedly, on Saturday, October 9th 2021, from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident in September.
He was an amazing husband to his wife and best friend, Sydney Shoemaker and a great dad to their fur babies Goofy and Josie.
He was very loved and survived by so many family members. His mother, Sherry Harmon and stepdad Chuck Harmon; His father, Delmar Shoemaker and stepmom Melanie Shoemaker.
Mike was very close with his siblings, Steven and Megan Shoemaker. He is loved very much by his grandparents, William E. Rice Jr. (Dottie), and Delmar Shoemaker Sr. (Ellen); and his uncles, Matt Shoemaker and Richard Rice (Tracy). He also loved his cousin’s, Rachael Blaser and her husband Chad blazer, Brianna Clark, Morgan Asbill (Creighton), and Maddison rice.
His only niece, Kaylee looks up to him; he has been in her life more than her own dad.
His in-laws are going through a great deal of pain and sadness for him as well. His father-in-law Eddie Lee Sharpes JR, his mother-in-law Kathy Alexander, sister-in-law Samantha Sharpes, and his brother-in-law Eddie J. Sharpes; they all are heartbroken. Mike was blessed with a lot of family and will be so deeply missed by everyone.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandmother, Phyllis Jean Rice.
Mike always did his best to make time to spend with his family. He enjoyed taking walks down to the river with Sydney and the dogs and going to the dog park.
He loved spending time in West Virginia with his Dad and spending time in Myrtle Beach with his Mom.
Michael enjoyed hunting, four wheeling and riding ATV’s at the family’s log cabin property in the mountains of West Virginia. He also enjoyed fishing, boating and operating heavy equipment including bulldozers, pans, dump trucks and about every other piece of heavy equipment at his job site at Pruitt. He was very good and a master at operating bulldozers. He has always been a hard worker and has always had a job.
He also loved riding and working on motorcycles and especially going to the bike weeks in various states.
Michael was not one to sit still, he stayed busy. As a child, he would fabricate things, building toys, little wooden trailers to pull behind his trucks and even once fabricating boogie boards with a chair for him to float on in the water. In his adulthood, Michael could fabricate and repair anything. He worked on all of his vehicles and four wheelers a lot of the time. He was very mechanically inclined, a mechanical genius. If it was broken, he could fix it.
His father writes, “When he was a very young boy, him, his brother and I took the Virginia Hunters Safety class. We all shot these old cheap long bows with no sights at the targets as a learning activity. After shooting only a few arrows and within seconds he had physically adjusted/compensated his aiming and was hitting bullseyes. The instructor saw this and was amazed. He said “that boy is dynamite”. Other boys there even older were struggling at even hitting the center of the target. I knew at that moment my son had a special gift and ability.
Once his step mother allowed him to drive her stick shift car around the yard (successfully of course) as a very young boy that could barely reach the peddles, he said “I was born to drive”.
Michael is admired by so many, for so many reasons. He was honest and straight up, he never held grudges, and had one of the biggest hearts ever known. He would do anything to help anyone. He was handsome, strong, and funny. If you didn’t know him, you really missed out on meeting a great man.
A visitation for Michael will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 6:00pm-7:00pm at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 7:00pm.
Michael's celebration of life will be Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 12:00pm at Tims II @ Fairview Beach, 5411 Pavilion Dr., King George, VA.
