

Sadie B. Snellings, a longtime resident of Fredericksburg, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the age of 96. Mrs. Snellings was born on December 24,1927 to the late Esta and Raymond Barton Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Snellings and her three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Sadie graduated from Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia and The Georgia School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia. After receiving her nursing degree, she moved to Fredericksburg and began a 38-year nursing career at Mary Washington Hospital. As director of the operating room, it was said that she ran a “tight ship” and was honored as Nurse of the year in 1979. Fondly known as “Aunt Sadie” to friends of the family, many asked to see Aunt Sadie as they entered those operating room doors.
Sadie was a member of The Fredericksburg Methodist Church and, after retiring, enjoyed volunteering at The Fredericksburg Area Museum. She was also an avid traveler and enjoyed showing her large map of countries visited and sharing her stories and trip adventures.
A service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 16, Sunset Memorial Chapel. Pallbearers will be Stephen Trant, Glenn Woodard, Kaden Yealy, Glenn Woodard III, David Woodard, and Tanner Woodard.
