

Sandy was born in 1949 in Frankfort, Indiana, daughter of Robert and Mae Shipley, both of whom predeceased her. She graduated from Frankfort High School and received her undergraduate degree in Secondary Education from Ball State University in 1971.
In 1974 she married Air Force Captain Jim Lee and moved with him to Columbus, Mississippi. While in Columbus she completed a master’s degree in education at Mississippi University for Women.
Following assignments in Oregon, Delaware, and Illinois, Sandy and her husband ended up back in Dover, Delaware, where they resided from 1985 to 2023 when they moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia.
During her time in Dover, she worked in accounting and human resources for several local companies. Sandy was also very involved in church work throughout her married life. She loved to sing and was a member of different choirs and music groups wherever she and her family worshiped. In addition, she served as a Deaconess and co-taught a young adult Bible study with her husband.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Jim; two sons, Christopher Lee (Lyndsey) and Brian Lee (Caitlyn); and seven grandchildren, Robby, Jack, Matthew, Rebekah, Isaac, Mary-Grace and Andrew.
Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, January 16, at Quantico National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg, VA, 22401.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (Donorservices.alz.org).
