Dixie was born on March 24, 1940 in New Bloomfield, MO the daughter of Joseph and Lelah (Schofield) Gray who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on June 12, 1959 in Fulton, MO to John Akers who preceded her in death on January 15, 1978. Dixie attended Dixie Christian Church in New Bloomfield, MO for several years. She worked for Orscheln Farm & Home in Fulton, MO, was a bus driver for South Callaway Public Schools and retired from Fulton State Hospital in 2001. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, crocheting and quilting but her greatest passion was her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include: one son, Joe Akers (Wendy) of New Bloomfield, MO; one daughter, Pam Perrigo (Daniel) of Fulton, MO; five grandchildren, Michelle Campbell (Dean), Caitlin Spencer (William), Christina Dupuis (Paul), Jenn VanBooven (Justin) and Tammy Akers and six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Emery, Carson, Alexander, Zachariah and Lilyann.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton, MO. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev Jason Akers officiating. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens in Fulton, MO.
