

Memorial service for Alan M. Stewart, Jr. will be Monday, December 12, 2016 at The Tabernacle Church, 1301 South 11th Street, Gadsden, AL at 2:00 p.m. Pastors Tommy Marshall and Dan Maddox and Sunday school teacher, Forrest Metcalf will officiate. Music by Tommy Marshall and Ansley Reagan Unsworth. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Alan is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Lunette Dempsey Stewart; children, Teresa Stewart Reagan (Robert), Alan M. Stewart, III (Meg), Robin Stewart Diggs (David); grandchildren, Robert Stewart Reagan, Ansley Reagan Unsworth (Shane), Corey Stewart Corbitt (Brad), Alan Stewart IV, Matt Diggs (Taylor) and Jared Diggs (Linsie); great-grandchildren, Regan Elizabeth Unsworth and Bentley David Diggs; brothers and sisters, Iris Cordelia Ruth, Tom Stewart, Bill Stewart, Glennell Ramsey, Delsie Yother (Jerrell), Donald Stewart (Connie); and beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan M. Stewart and Cleva Dell Wright Stewart; parents-in-law, O.H. Dempsey and Lorene Dempsey; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Ruth, Mack Dempsey, Frank Ramsey, Sylvia Stewart, and Brenda Stewart.
Alan, 85, was born April 2, 1931. He graduated from Gadsden High School in 1949 and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1949-1952 in Tokyo, Japan, General Headquarters. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he graduated from the University of Alabama in 1956. He had a 40 year career at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He and Lunette have been active members at The Tabernacle Church for many years, where he faithfully served The Lord in various ministries. He was also a member of The Gideons International. Alan leaves a legacy of love for God, his family, and his church.
Honorary pallbearers are Ken Davis, John Leslie, Don Hurst, Art Turner, Ken Stephens, and Hurbert Bruice.
