Mr. Barney Rains, age 84, of Gadsden, Alabama, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 15, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel. Rev. Allen O’Bryant and Rev. John Screws will officiate. Interment will follow at Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden, Alabama. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rains was a member of Whorton Bend Baptist Church. He is a veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a medic. Mr. Rains retired from Seimens. He owned and operated Rains Realty in Gadsden for many years. He was also an avid woodworker who made sure no one in his family went without a swing and a birdhouse. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a joke to tell anyone he saw.
Mr. Rains is survived by his wife, Louise, and a large loving family. He had many grandchildren whom he enjoyed spending time with. He couldn’t stand it if at least one was not at our house at all times.
A special “thank you” to all those who have helped us in this struggle the last 3 or 4 years. Barney fought so hard. Thank you Dr. Reiland, Barney loved you.
Thank you to our daughter and care-giver, Tina Parker for your patient and loving care and for being his best-buddy and carrying him anywhere he wanted to go – for watching the Alabama games with him, for always allowing him to ride the scooters at Lowes and Wal-Mart. You two were quite a pair and he loved you very deeply.
Thank you Lord for giving me and Barney 24 years together. We loved each other so much and I will miss him forever – Love, Louise.
Pallbearers will be Cody Wesson, Kevin Edge, Steve Edge, Keith Hayes, Keith Raines, and Stan Raines.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tina Parker, Les Brantley, Ken Hayes, Chris Hayes, Larry Beddingfield, and David Beddingfield.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Monday at Collier-Butler.
