

Betty was born in Blount County on March 20, 1939. She graduated from Oneonta High School and earned her nursing degree from Holy Name of Jesus Nursing School in 1960. She then began a 39-year nursing career, most of which was spent at Holy Name of Jesus/Riverview Hospital.
Betty was an avid reader and enjoyed word games and puzzles, but she especially loved to travel. She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter and the Daughters of the King.
She is survived by her sons, James Thomas (Lisa) Roper Jr. and Jeffrey Dale (Tammie) Roper; her daughter, Elizabeth Roper (Paul) Panik; her grandchildren, William Paul (Rachael) Panik, Benjamin Scott (Brittany) Roper, Michael Thomas (Peyton) Panik, Andrew Wesley (Molly) Panik, Abigail Claire Roper, and Isabella Hayden Roper; and her great-grandson, Wesley Thomas Panik.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service, reception, and visitation at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Gadsden, Alabama, on Saturday, January 31, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Holy Comforter Columbarium, with John Bagby, Interim Rector of the church, officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter.
