

Chapel funeral service for Mr. Bobby Shiver, 75, of Gadsden, will be 2 pm Monday, December 27, 2010. Ray Baker will officiate with burial to follow at Goshen Cemetery in Piedmont, AL. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Bobby was born February 28, 1935. A 1953 Cedar Bluff alumnus, Bobby lettered in high school basketball and football. He joined the USMC in 1953, where he retired as a Master Sergeant E-8 in 1973—throughout his 20 years of service, Bobby toured in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam and was stationed in: Cherry Point, NC, Beaufort, SC, Washington, D.C., and NAS Norfolk, VA. After retiring from the USMC, Bobby continued his legacy of service as a civilian by working at the Anniston Army Depot and Vought Aerospace Corp. He and Lanis enjoyed the sunny beaches of Largo, FL for 15 years until they returned to Gadsden in 2000 to be closer to family. While in Gadsden, he worked for the city of Gadsden’s Parks and Recreation Department. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2760. Bobby was also a member of the Gadsden Masonic Lodge. He was a lifetime member of Marine Corps League, McLaughlin Detachment #1091. Bobby loved college football—especially cheering on the Crimson Tide. He was preceded in death by his father, Emanuel Shiver; mother, Pansy Helms Wood; and step-father, Obie Wood. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lanis Doyal Shiver; son, Keith Shiver of San Francisco, CA.; daughter, Pam (Todd) Talbot of Gadsden; grandsons Logan and Lane Talbot of Gadsden. Honorary pallbearers will be his Masonic brothers, special friends Joe Driver and Doc Holliday.The family would like to express special thanks to: Tammy Boatfield, RN; 9th Floor GRMC; Etowah County Home Health; Risa Fields, RN; Matthew Mills; Dr. Sancheti; Dr. Castillo; Dr. Urbina; New Beacon Hospice; Carson Pearce, RN; Crysta Robertson, RN; Vivian Jordan, RN; and Josh Kirkland.
