She was a 1965 graduate of Gadsden High School. After 44 years, Cecilia retired from being a dental hygienist for Dr. Sam Norris. Once retired, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and fought with courage and grace for 13 years. Her doctors referred to her as a miracle patient, and she dedicated herself to helping other women diagnosed by participating in clinical trials.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Dorothy Dorsett and her sisters Sheila Hulsey and Imelda Beasley.
She is survived by Ralph Whitt, her loving husband of 60 years; sons, Mark (Nancy) Whitt, Scott (Holly) Whitt; grandchildren, Sarah Grace Whitt, Nathan Whitt, Sally Whitt and Marcy Whitt; brother, Dr. Cecil Dorsett and his wife, her best friend Dr. Barbara Dorsett; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Charles Leath III and his team, along with the nurses and staff on the 7th floor of the UAB Women and Infants Center and the UAB Palliative Care Unit, for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at Collier-Butler Funeral Home on Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 11:00-1:00pm, followed by a graveside service at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery at 1:30pm.
The family welcomes flowers, or donations may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
