

Freddie Kitchens, age 64, of Attalla, Ala. passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home, Gadsden, Ala. with Brother Billy Ray Rowan officiating. Burial will follow at Pinegrove Cemetery, Glencoe, Ala.
Mr. Kitchens was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Mae and Henry Lee Kitchens, as well as numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Elizabeth Kitchens of Attalla, Ala.; sons, Charles Freddie (Ginger) Kitchens Jr. of Chandler, Arizona and Jason Wayne (Quanah) Kitchens of Hokes Bluff, Ala. and daughter, Emily Lauren Kitchens of Attalla, Ala.; grandchildren, Bennett and Camden Kitchens and Emory, Hayley and Kenleigh Kitchens; special companion, Quickie Kitchens, as well as numerous other friends and family.
Freddie grew up in Gadsden, Ala. and later attended Walnut Grove High School, where he was an avid football, baseball and basketball player. He was a member of the Alabama High School Athletic Association, where he was an official for both football and basketball games. Freddie also spent time coaching youth football and baseball and found great joy in being a part of the lives of many of the area's youth. Freddie also spearheaded a football camp for local youth for over 16 years. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for many years before retiring in 2004.
Freddie was a wonderful husband and a devoted father, grandfather and friend. He rarely met a stranger and had a vast circle of friends and acquaintances. Freddie was also, and most importantly, an enthusiastic and intense Alabama football fan who spent most Saturdays attending or watching games. Freddie was a truly special person who will be missed by all.
Pallbearers will be Brent McCoy, Larry Tarrance, Darryl Robertson, Billy Kitchens, Randy Burns, and Ricky Scott.
The family would like to extend special thanks to our dear friends, Dr. Butch Douthit and Crysta Robertson, Amy McGlaughn, NP, Amedisys Hospice Staff, and GRMC 8th floor CICU nurses, Emily Benefield and Stefanie Price for your invaluable and unwavering care, love and support.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at the funeral home.
