

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Mrs. Dillagusta Glenn Samuel, age 92, Gadsden, who passed away Saturday night, September 4, 2010. The Dr. Craig Carlisle will officiate with burial to follow at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Services directing.
Mrs. Samuel was a lifelong resident of Etowah County and was retired from Bell South Telephone Company where she was employed for 57 years. She was a member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church since 1934. Through the years she was involved in her church and many community activities. Until her illness she taught an Adult Sunday School Class for many years. Prior to that she was Intermediate Department Director. Mrs. Samuel previously served as Church Clerk, served on the finance, social, and history committees. She was an active member of The Altrusa Club of Gadsden, Alabama Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers and The Gadsden Chapter of Telephone Pioneers. She was also a member at large of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Mrs. Samuel was a giving person and loved arranging flowers, cooking, entertaining and especially loved giving gifts to all her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Russell Samuel; parents, Oscar and May Smith Glenn; brother, Oscar Ray Glenn; an infant brother, John G. Glenn; and infant sister, Martha May Glenn.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Nora Sue Glenn and a number of cousins.
Her wonderful friends will always be remembered, loved and cherished, especially her friend and Deacon, Wayne Eads and his wife Joan who have been special in her life for many years.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Eads, Jim Hicks, Jerry Albert, Danny Hankins, Ray Grigsby, Bill Hale, Harry McElwee, Sam, Tommy, Sonny Taylor and Glenn Puckett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oscar Myrick, Dr. Cecil Hamiter, Hoyt Powell, Tom Wiggington, Royce Head, Winston Williams, Ted Turner, Bill Summerlin and Bob Kintz.
Special thanks to Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Gadsden Healthcare and Rehab and New Beacon Hospice. Also, special to Dilla were her caregivers, Doshie Smith, Beverly Hastings, Sheri Watson, Myra Hill, Cecilia Schrum and Jean England.
In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorials be made to The Twelfth Street Baptist Church New Building Fund, 323 South 12th Street, Gadsden, AL 35901.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
