

Dorothy was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1958. She went on to build a lifelong career in the Alabama poultry industry, where she was widely respected for her dedication and work ethic. She was a member of the Alabama Poultry & Egg Association and received numerous awards throughout her career, including a special commendation from the Alabama Attorney General recognizing her outstanding service.
Dorothy spent her retirement years enjoying time with her family, especially her beloved great-granddaughter, Eva Faye Lane, who was lovingly named in honor of Dorothy’s mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Gilbert A. “Boots” Lane, Jr.; her father, Howard Curtis Watts; her mother, Mary Eva Clark Watts; her brother, James Curtis Watts; and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Foster Watts.
She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory, including her son, Gilbert A. Lane, Jr. (Cindy); grandsons, Steven Mark Lane (Stacey) and Jonathan Douglas Lane (Robin); and great-granddaughter, Eva Faye Lane.
Dorothy is also survived by her brothers, Larry Watts (Patsy), Phillip Watts, Ricky Watts (Teressa), and Mike Watts (Sharon); and her sister, Debra Watts (Shane). She is further survived by fifteen nieces and nephews, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Curtis Watts, Rodney Watts, Landon Watts, Todd Watts, Chad Watts, and Judd Watts.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden, AL.
Dorothy will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her love for her family, and the lasting impact she made on everyone who knew her.
