

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the new 12th Street Baptist Church, Highway 77, for Elise D. Hamiter, 90, Gadsden, who died Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Rev. Criag Carlisle and Dr. Troy Morrison will officiate. A private burial will be at Forrest Cemetery with Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services Directing.
Mrs. Hamiter was born in Reform, AL, on September 7, 1921. She graduated from Pickens County High School in 1939, and received her baccalaureate degree from Alabama College (University of Montevallo) in 1943. She taught high school home economics in Aliceville,AL, worked as a home economist for the Farmers Home Administration in Molton, AL, and as a social worker for the State of Alabama in the nineteen forties. Mrs. Hamiter taught Sunday School for the Primary Children’s Class at 12th Street Baptist Church. She was a member of the Mountain Laurel Garden Club and the Women’s Missionary Union. Mrs. Hamiter also was a volunteer consultant for dietetics and nutrition for the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for nineteen mission hospitals world-wide.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, J. Cecil Hamiter, Sr. Son, John C. Hamiter, Jr. (Belle) Daughters, Meg Hamiter Jackson, and Anita H. Tucker (LeRoy). Grandchildren, Hallie H. McKnight (Geoff), John Wesley Hamiter (Ann), Drew Jackson (Stephanie Ray), and Ashley Elise Tucker. Great-Grandchildren, Stuart Douglass and Lucy Kate McKnight. Brother, Joe P. Doughty (Rozelle), and Sister-in-law, Bonnie M. Doughty.
Mrs. Hamiter was preceded in death by her parents, J.P. and Beatrice Orr Doughty and her youngest brother, James Ewart Doughty.
Pallbearers will be Drew Jackson, Wes Hamiter, Alan Doughty, John Arnold, James Chambers, and Bill Clark.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 12-2pm. at the church.
Her favorite charities were the 12th Street Baptist Church Building Fund, the 12th Street Baptist Church Special Education Class, The Big Oak Ranch, and the Eagle Rock Boys Ranch.
